Course Description

In this class, I bring together all my beautiful memories, from early childhood vacations, working in the deep south of Italy as a pizza baker in my early twenties, to my many travels throughout Italy with my family. Italy has and will always have a significant influence on both my life and work.

I will show you how I translate those recollections into abstract landscapes, a monoprint assemblage, and a layered visual collage with my own photography.

The memories I've based this course on are, of course, mine. As you go through these lessons, give yourself the time and space to think about yours; I encourage you to create art from your own reminiscences.

Guest Teacher Nicolet Groen

Nicolet Groen is a mixed media artist and professional photographer that found her way back to art after a hiatus of 25 years. She works intuitively with different media in her art journal, collage, and abstract landscapes. Her art is intricate but not overwhelming by working with a minimal palette of muted colors, vintage ephemera, book pages, photos, and postcards. Her work's imagery and timeworn quality point to her love of travel, history, photography, and typography. Nicolet lives with her husband and two teenagers in the picturesque harbor town Hoorn in the Netherlands and travels to Italy as often as possible; that's the country where she finds her inspiration.
